YORKSHIRE actor Paul Shane, best known for his role in the 1980s TV sitcom Hi-de-Hi!, has died at the age of 72.

Cyril Hood, who has died at the age of 90, was born in Southowram and educated at Withinfields School and Rastrick Grammar School. Encouraged by the Rev. C.D. Roberts of St Anne’s Church, Southowram, he pursued further study at St John’s College, York and began his teaching career in 1942. He taught at Copley Council School; Kingham Hill School, Oxfordshire; and St Augustine’s, Halifax, before being called up to serve in the Second World War.
